Flowers

Calendula Flower, Whole (Calendula officinalis)

Properties and Uses:

Calendula is one of the most valuable herbs in the treatment of external skin problems like slow-healing wounds, skins ulcers, inflammation or minor burns. Internally it reduces digestive inflammation and therefore is helpful in treating gastric and duodenal ulcers. Also useful for relieving indigestion and gall bladder problems, and can help normalize delayed or painful menstruation.

Cultivated in Fayoum. Dried in wooden bins as in the case of Chamomile. The dried flowers are then sifted mechanically and further handpicking is applied to eliminate all foreign particles. The flowers should only be packed when moisture content is less than 10% in order to maintain the color

Petals
Calendula called Marigolds. A wonderful edible flower. Flavors range from spicy to bitter, tangy to peppery. Their sharp taste resembles saffron (also known as Poor Man's Saffron). Has pretty petals in golden-orange hues. Sprinkle them on soups, pasta or rice dishes, herb butters, and salads. Petals add a yellow tint to soups, spreads, and scrambled eggs.

The petals are manually separated from the fresh flowers. The petals are then dried in wooden bins for 4-7 days. The dried petals are then sifted mechanically for eliminating foreign parts as well other plant parts.
